God did not create the universe, says Hawking – Yahoo! News.
Hawking also sounds like Spinoza when he claims: “Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist.”

Doesn’t there have to be a mass of formless something which may be brought to a critical point for spontaneous creation to occur?
Hi Anti Vigilante
I’ve not read Hawking’s new book so I’m not sure if he’s added anything new to his no-boundary theory of the universe, by which he means that we need to understand the origins in terms of quantum mechanics and Feynmanian probabilities rather than in terms of the singularities of Einsteinian relativity theory. According to the no-boundary theory there is no point, no boundary, where one can say there was or was not something, where formless becomes formed, etc. You have spontaneous creation without beginning. Paradoxical as it may sound, it’s what I take Hawking to be arguing. Here’s a link that explains it a bit more:

wonderful… so who stopped it from spontaneously creating then?
quantum mechanics lacks mechanics – it’s just the evolution of quantum statistics.
